Paint Sprayer vs The Brush

August 26, 2015 By thriftytonifty

I have been painting "projects" for a little over a year and its alway been with a brush.  That has always worked out fine with the kind of items I was painting.  I started with a buffet, a bench, a cocktail and sofa table and also a large hutch, just to name a few.  All and all, these pieces were quite manageable with a paint brush until I purchase a dining set that needed some tlc. Within this … [Read more...]

Painted Child’s Rocking Chair

July 30, 2015 By thriftytonifty

I was having some terrific luck with garage sales and thrift store searches. With such success, leaves a garage full of potential projects.  One of these projects was a sweet little wooden child's rocker I came across at an estate sale for a song. It was in excellent condition but just a little too dark for my taste.  Hmm, what should I do to give a child's rocking chair a fresh look?  You got it, … [Read more...]

DIY Chalk Paint

June 29, 2015 By thriftytonifty

I've been plugging away working on projects that I have either stored up from the winter or have an acquired during Thrifty Friday outings.  Recently, I painted a cedar chest, and freshened up a tired mirror. I'm feeling good!  I can see progress, that's always motivating. I don't know what came over me but I was very much in a groove. So much, that I neglected to take photos of my work until they … [Read more...]

DIY Home Decor Projects

June 22, 2015 By thriftytonifty

It has been a while since my last post. It's not from lack of thrifty projects to complete.  It's from the very fact summer has begun.  That means a whole new routine, expectation, and craziness.  I'm sure many of you can relate.  I did however, find time to complete some DIY home decor projects, I just haven't have had the opportunity to write about them. Now that I'm settled, I would like to … [Read more...]

Chalk Painted Cedar Chest

May 26, 2015 By thriftytonifty

The past few posts I shared have been the terrific scores I made when I was out treasure hunting.  These crazy finds can be seen here and here .  However, the downside to all of this is that , now what to do with all of it? Time to get to work.  My first project... give a fresh look to a tired piece, chalk paint a cedar chest. This is the piece I picked up.  It had really good … [Read more...]

Home Decor Treasure Hunting Part II

May 18, 2015 By thriftytonifty

The last few weeks have been quiet around here, project wise.  That is because it is the start of garage sale season in Wisconsin.  I love to go to garage sales, yard sales, rummage sales or whatever else you may call it.  You can read about the history of my treasure hunting here.  It short, it has evolved mainly from shopping kids toys and clothes to home decor.  My house is decorated with … [Read more...]

Home Decor: Weekend Treasure Hunting

April 27, 2015 By thriftytonifty

How was your weekend?  Mine was surprisingly spot on!  I started the weekend  by carving out a brief time to go treasure hunting.  You see, here in Wisconsin, it is a seasonal event and now that the weather started cooperating, the garage sales have sprung.  Its spring time! If you recall in a pervious post, I explained how I began thrift store and garage sale shopping.  It was a Friday … [Read more...]

DIY Pin Board

April 22, 2015 By thriftytonifty

I have been collecting picture frames for a while to create a gallery wall. I'm getting close to the amount I need.  After accessing the pile, I came across one that just didn't seem to work with the others.  So what does one do with an odd ball picture frame? Make a pin board! This is is what I had to start with. One empty picture frame. How to Make  a Pin Board- Shop my Stash  Step 1: … [Read more...]
