I have said it many times. I love old doors. Really!! I could decorate with old doors in every room if it wouldn’t be just a little it too over the top.
My love of doors began with these finds. these treasures triggered my whole love of decorating with upcycled doors. I have used doors to decorate the exterior of my home as well as the interior. Here, are just a few examples of some of my projects
Repurposing continued with with this farm fresh exterior door. Instead of it being discarded to the burn pile, I rescued it, gave it a good sanding to expose the many layers of paint, added a wreath and now it has a new life. As for the door turned bench, what can I say …. functional, cute and I just love it. Recently, it found a home with a cute young family in their newly renovated farmhouse. I couldn’t be happier.
As I said before, I could decorate with doors in everyone room. Here in my kitchen nook area, I scrubbed down another barn found door, added a wreath and used it on a wall space that just needed a little something extra. Why not a door?
The door decorating continued into the living room. This sweet door was found at a vintage sale. Someone took the time to cut the door in half, apply hinges, and now is a great, useful and functional piece. I have used it as a screen to help with the bright sunlight that comes through the patio doors, and I also have just used it as decor. An interesting statement piece behind an occasional chair or side table has been its recent function. I have high ceilings in many of the rooms, so I can use these pieces to assist the eye in moving around the room and vertically in height.
The final area of my home (for now) that I have been able to decorate with old doors has been in my bedroom. I chose this old door for its versatility. To tell you the truth, I don’t recall where I picked it up at, but I do remember that it was chosen because of its paint color. One side is painted blue and the other is just a traditional white. Just a little cleaning and sanding and it was ready for its new home among my refreshed bedroom.
If you would like to see and be inspired by other means to decorate with old doors, I have created a Pinterest Board strickly to generate new ideas. Please visit. Possibly you may be inspired to decorate with old doors in your home as well.

September 14, 2016 at 8:51 pmI just love your old doors! Not too over the top for me! I’ve always wished I could have the front door of the apartment we lived in when we first got married. It was an old house (1910, I think) that had been converted into three apartments. And I loved the door.

September 14, 2016 at 12:42 pmI love how you have placed your doors throughout the house. I wouldn’t have thought to do that in most of those places! I love decorating with doors but don’t have any in my house. I live in a Victorian so it already has a ton of doorways in every room! I do have an old shutter decorated with a wreath in my front hall. Out in my garden is a full size distressed door that I just love.

September 12, 2016 at 8:48 pmDoors are such a fun piece for decor and you have a keen eye for styling them! I’m glad the door chair found a nice family to go home with. I remember it. Now when I go to estate sales, I’m going to be looking for doors. Those screen doors remind me of my childhood and that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Clearly I need one!
