How has your weekend been? It has been fabulous here. Although there has been thunderstorms, there also has been a nice balance of great weather too. I know I often talk about the weather, but where I live, it strongly dictates what you end up doing. When the weather is nice, you certainly don’t spend it indoors. So my plans changed, and I spent a little ” me time” doing a little Thrifty Kitchen Decorating.
Sometime ago, I came across a few cutting boards for dirt cheap while out thrifting. I scooped them up knowing I would do something with them…. eventually. You see, that is how I operate. I generally don’t have a plan, but when something “speaks to me” I go with my gut. This time, it was a small decision but one I’m glad I made because what was created I just love.
Consulting my “black book ” of ideas, (Pinterest) I came across some great ideas to use for Thrifty Kitchen Decorating. This is an area I haven’t spent too much time creating for but found I was attracted to the many ideas that contained the word “Eat”. A word that is used often in this house of boys! I gathered the ideas and made a Pinterest Kitchen Decor Board. After shopping my stash, I remembered the cutting boards I picked up a while back. See, I knew they would serve a purpose sooner or later! Anderson + Grant shared a great tutorial on how to create DIY cutting Board Wall Art.
Following her inspiration, I created my own.
It began with staining each cutting board with the same color stain to give it a uniform look. I just used what I had on hand. Next, after picking up some wooden letters, I painted them using a homemade blue-gray chalk paint. A couple of coats with drying time in between resulted in just the right neutral pallet for my kitchen. I distressed them a bit on the corners using sandpaper and them glued them right to the board using my favorite Gorilla Glue.
The result? Easy Thrifty Kitchen Decorating by just shopping my stash. So simple, I love it! Please share how you have been decorating your kitchen. I’m always looking for great inspiration.
