Recently, I have become obsessed with old doors. I have even started a Pinterest Board dedicated just to upcycling doors and windows. It’s seems there are many of us who have caught the upcycle and repurposing the bug. Let me share with you the upcycled door projects I have completed.
It all began when I came across a repurposed screen door. It was painted a super cute vintage blue color with an attached flower planter on the front. It immediately came home with me and became my new spring decor.
Another find I uncovered was a older door that immediately said chalkboard. The door was painted gray and the glass window was left as is, and the 2 wood panels were easily turned into individual chalkboards. Hangers were attached so the door could be hung vertically or horizontally. Super cute and functional. It ended up in my Thrifty to Nifty shop along with the screen door. Happily they both have found new homes to adorn.
My most recent door upcycled came from a garage sale. I found 2 exactly the same old exterior doors with the windows intact. I brought them home because I knew they were a great find at a unbelievable cheap price but I did not have a vision for them. As a result, they sat in my garage for quite a while. Then one afternoon, it came to me. The doors and windows could become two separate projects. I removed the windows and set them aside, gave the doors a sanding to remove some of the really chippy paint, and tah dah! Super cute, chippy doors that could be used as interior or exterior decor. I added a wreath and this project was complete. I laughed at how long they sat unattended compared to how quick they were transformed. This is such a great example of being patient. A vision will come.
There is a wide variety of items that can be upcycled. Have you repurposed anything? I would love to see.

November 18, 2015 at 8:10 amThese are all cute projects. I’m not at all surprised they sold quickly in your shop! I’ve got a repurposed screen door project idea that I’ve been trying to sell my hubby on. He hasn’t bought into it yet but he will eventually.
