Happy January, folks. Have you regrouped from the holidays? Over here at Thrifty to Nifty, life has been plugging along, getting the house put back together. Decorations and dishes have been put back in storage, linens washed and New Year’s goals addressed. All this work can be exhausting. Therefore, cuddling up with a good book under a cozy blanket at the end of the day is one of my favorite self indulgence . Therfore, my heart just swooned when I came a crossed the most fabulous handmade blanket. Have you seen those awesome handmade chunky wool blankets? I’m loving them, but they are so out of my price point.
Since my first introduction to these homemade chunky wool blankets featured over at Liz Marie Blog, I have been in love. Sadly, these blankets are quite costly. Liz Marie even shared some links to affordable chunky wool blankets. Still, they were a far reach from my allowable thrifty budget. So, I just added this to my “Oh I Wish” list and snuggled up with what I had.
What does one do in January when it is cold, gloomy, and snowy? Well, I go thrift shopping and surf the local online resale sites. I must say, it has been quite successful. When I was out and about, I came across this spectacular knitted blanket at a favorite St. Vinny’s Thrift Store. Upon my excitement, I unfolded it and found it to be large and soft and beautiful. Oh joy! Could it be true? I found a thrifty version of what I have been wanting, a handmade chunky wool blanket? I know it is not an exact duplicate, but it sure ranked up there in beauty. Just look at all that stitching. It’s just perfect for me. It was marked pricey for a thrift store find, but the craftsmanship and time spent sure warrants the price. ( A fraction of the “wish list” blanket ) Believe me. I could not wait to get it home, washed up and tested out. I’m happy to report it’s perfect!
Here, the chunky blanket looks beautiful draped over another great find I made that very same day. It is an up cycled baby crib converted into a wonderful settee. How cute is that. Now two reasons to make my heart swoon. Until the day my handmade chunky wool blanket leaves the wish list and becomes reality, I will snuggle happily in my settee with my thrifty found blanket. It was a great Thrifty Day.
I’m curious to know what is on your “Oh I wish” list. Do share. Do you think it will ever come true?
