Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? Yet, we don’t seem to think of decorating or restyling with what we already have. During one of my purging sessions, I came across an old issue of a HGTV Magazine with a sub heading stating just that, “Restyle With What You Have”. Hey!, I must be featured, because this is the only kind of styling I do! Seriously, if you look back at many of my posts I have shared, I decorate mainly with items I already own. These posts were either called “Shopping My Stash” or “No Cost Decorating”.
Here are a few examples of such decorating…..
The two coffee stations in my home, created at different times, resulted from using pieces from other rooms throughout the house.
During the fall, I was able to look around my home and choose items to use to decorate my mantle and also give an quick refresh to a pair of shutters. These easy no cost choices made a large impact to the decor for the season
However, one of my all time favorite room change ups with what I already owned was a Pottery Barn Look- Alike bed makeover. I literally took a photo of a bedding ensemble in a Pottery Barn Store, and recreated it in my own bedroom using what I had already on hand.
As stated in the HGTV Jan/Feb 2016 Magazine, “All it takes is some clever rearranging of the cute pieces you already own to give your home a fresh look.”
Go ahead, give it a try. You will be surprised how something old looks new again in a different spot and how you will fall in love with it a second time. You will be reminded of why you purchased that item in the first place. Restyle with what you have already!

June 8, 2017 at 7:42 amI remember all of these makeovers. I loved them then and I love them now. I try to use what I already have when decorating. Before I buy new (seasonal) stuff, I always ask myself where I’m going to store it. That question alone usually has me backing away from the new and styling with what I have on hand.

June 9, 2017 at 7:17 pmYes that is an important question to ask. One can get carried away with a good deal or great find but it does no good if it doesn’t work in ones space
Need to be a smart decorator!

I remember that Pottery Barn bedroom look-alike, too. You do such a great job with restyling with what you have. It is a great way to save money!
